Lady Bulldogs Go Toe to Toe With Madison

The Milbank Lady Bulldogs hosted the Madison Lady Bulldogs on Monday, August 28. The make-up tennis match was rescheduled from Tuesday, August 22, due to concerns about the heat index. Milbank was edged out by Madison 5-4. They earned three points in singles action and one in doubles.
At No. 1, Hope Karels defeated Delilah Maxwell 6-2 and 6-4. Ashlynn Lamp, playing in the No. 2 position, was defeated by Sienna Maxell 6-1 and 6-0. Jenna Korstjens won two against Audrey Allen– one at 6-2 and one by forfeit. Amelia Pederson also won two. She defeated Christian Rowe 6-3 and 6-0. At No. 5, Caitlyn Frerichs was defeated by Miranda Gonyo 6-0 and 6-2. Jericho Jones was defeated by Callie Bounds 6-1 and 6-3.
In doubles play, Karels and Lamp went down against D. and S. Maxwell 6-2 and 7-5. Korstjens and Pederson took the victory for Milbank against Gonyo and Rowe at 7-5 and 6-3. Payton Lamp and Charlotte Swanson were defeated by Allen and Bounds 6-4 and 6-4.
JV Action
At No. 1, Bre Hicks collected the JV’s only singles win at 6-1. Alexis Meyer at No. 2 and Josie Riveland at No. 3 were each defeated 6- 2. Ava Sichmiller went down 6-0, Dana Chan 6-1, and Izzy Glomstad 6-0. Kyra Tostenson put up a fight but was eventually defeated 6-4. Keira Steffen, Gemma Frerichs, and Bridget Regil each took a loss at 6-0.
Riveland and Sichmiller put up Milbank’s only win in doubles at 6-2. Hicks and Meyer went down 6-2. The duos of Chan and Glomstad, Tostenson and Steffen, and Frerichs and Regil were each defeated 6-0.
What’s next for girls tennis? The Lady Bulldogs host Watertown on Tuesday, September 5.
