The Bulldogs took fifth place at the 2023 Hub City Golf Meet hosted at Lee Park Golf Course in Aberdeen on August 29. Mark Keeton, head coach for Milbank, commented, “The Hub City Invite is always a fun meet as there is a good mixture of A and AA teams. We finished in fifth place with a team score of 340, but Aberdeen Roncalli was the only A school to top us. As a team, we have been very consistent as of late, but we still have room to go lower.”

In an exciting finish, the individual medalist was determined by a seven-hole playoff after the two top golfers tied at 68. Nick Bothun of Pierre emerged as the winner. He nudged out Jake Olson of Watertown. 

Jonathan DeBoer was the highest ranking Bulldog and ended the tournament in the top 10. He tied with Andrew Gerlach (RC), Gabe Norberg (WA), Jesse Hernedez (RC), and Jackson Ravellette (AC) for 10th place.They each carded a 79.  DeBoer put up a 39 on the front nine and a 40 on the back.

Milbank had five more golfers crack the top 20. Charlie Peery and Owen Fisher carded 85 apiece to tie for 13th place with Gannon May (RC). Joshua Keeton landed in 17th place. He tied with Jace Bales (HU) at 91. Ryan Keeton took 18th place with 93. Greg Grabow also sliced a piece of the top-20 pie with a 97 to finish in 20th-place.

Watertown won the tournament with a four-under-par score of 280. The Pierre Governors latched onto second place at 298. Aberdeen Roncalli took third at 310. Aberdeen Central, who hosted the meet, took the fourth-place honors just ahead of the Bulldogs.

JV Scores:
On the front nine, Seth Van Hoorn carded a 63 to lead the Bulldogs. Preston Laskowske came in at 65, and Thomas Bass finished at 66.

JH Scores:
Bryton Blauert carded a 76 for Milbank. Emmett Schuelke was right behind him at 78.

What’s next for Bulldog golf? Varsity golfers travel to Groton on Thursday, September 7. They will most likely meet up again with Tiger Carter Simon who tied for seventh place in the Hub City Open, and Brevin Fliehs, who tied for eighth.
