Milbank Topples Lennox in Tennis Triangular

The Lady Bulldogs split wins in a tennis triangular with Lennox and Aberdeen Roncalli at Cantine Courts in Milbank on Tuesday, September 19. The meet was scheduled to be a quadrangular, but Aberdeen Central did not participate.

The Lady Bulldogs triumphed over the Lady Orioles of Lennox with a final score of 8-1. Milbank took the loss in their match against Aberdeen Roncalli at 6-3.

In their match with Lennox, the Lady Bulldogs gained five points in the singles round and three in doubles. Playing in the No. 1 position, Hope Karels (SR) downed Madison Buehner  (JR) 10-5. At No. 2, Ashlynn Lamp (SO) was defeated by Grace Dressen (JR) 10-1. Jenna Korstjens (FR)  defeated Brooklyn Buehner (FR) 10-6. At No. 4, Amelia Pederson (SR) trounced Macy Wallenstein (SO) 10-1. Caitlyn Frerichs (FR) defeated Miriam Welch (SO) 10-7. At No. 6, Jericho Jones (JR) got the better of Kathryn Loewe (SR) 10-6.

In doubles action, Milbank swept Lennox. Karels and Lamp battled it out for the win against M. and B. Buehner. The match ended 10-9 (7-4). Pederson and Korstjens dispatched Dressen and Wallenstein 10-5. Charlotte Swanson and Payton Lamp downed Welch and Loewe 10-7.

Milbank 3 vs. Roncalli 6
Milbank got off to a solid start in their match against the Lady Cavaliers of Aberdeen Roncalli. Both teams racked up three points in the singles round. Milbank cooled off considerably in doubles and allowed Roncalli to take all three matches.

In the singles round, Karels, at No. 1, was defeated by Katherine Kretchman (JR) 10-5. At No. 2, A. Lamp went down against River Haskell (JR) 10-3. Korstjens beat Raley Haskell (JR) 10-9 (7-5). Pederson pummeled Anna Mitzel (SR) 10-4. Frerichs was defeated by Keira Rivett (SO) 10-1. At No. 6, Jericho Jones put up the point for Milbank. She subdued Josie Mitzel (FR) 10-5.

In doubles play, Karels and Lamp lost to Kretchman and River Haskell 10-2. Pederson and Korstjens took the loss against Raley Haskell and Rivett 10-5. Swanson and P. Lamp were defeated by A. and J. Mitzel 10-4.

What’s next? The 2023 South Dakota Class A Girls Tennis Championships are coming up soon! This year, the tournament will be held in Sioux Falls on October 2-3.
