The Lady Bulldogs seventh-grade volleyball team competed in the Morris Tournament in Morris, Minnesota, on Saturday, October 14. Milbank won first place in the Silver Division. Coach Jena Schulte said, “We played five matches with two games per match.  It was a long day, but we played a lot of great volleyball to end the season with some wins. The girls worked very hard today and kept getting better as the day went on.”

Milbank took the loss to Lac qui Parle Valley (LQPV) with set scores of 11-25 and 13-25. Top servers were Lauren Lester who went five of six with one ace, and Zora Henrich, who was four of six with two aces.

Milbank was also defeated by Minnewaska with set scores of 8-25 and 13-25. Lady Bulldog Violet Johnson led the team in serving at six of seven with an ace. She also made one assist. Henrich went four five. Bella Hicks was one of three serving and she added one kill to Milbank’s total. Lester was one of three serving. She also  made one assist. Sophia Schuchard hit one of two serves and also contributed one kill.

The Lady Bulldogs split sets against Morris Area-Chokio-Alberta (MACA). Set scores were 10-25 and 25-13. Johnson led the way by knocking down 11 of 12 serves with five aces. Lester went five of eight with two aces. Henrich also hit five of eight. She put up three aces.

Milbank won both games against Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg (KMS). Set scores were 25-22 and 25-19.  Henrich paved the way in serving. She hit 12 of 13 with five aces.  Paisley Ericsson was on target for nine of nine with three aces. Johnson went six of eight with two aces.

In the championship game  of  the Silver Division, Milbank faced MACA again. The Lady Bulldogs swept the round at 25-23 and  25-21. Top servers included Ericsson at 11 of 14 with four aces;  Lester at five of seven with one ace and one assist; and  Zora Henrich at five of seven.  Henrich also contributed one kill.  Johnson nailed four of five serves. Hicks had four of seven. Sophia Schuchard put up three of six serves with two aces.

Milbank also played Tiospa Zina on Thursday, October 12. Coach Schulte said, “They were very close games, but we lost 22-25 and 24-26, but we did win the third game 25-14.” Top servers were Hicks at nine of 10 with five aces; Henrich nine of 11 with four aces; and Ericsson, seven of 10 with three aces.
