The MHS volleyball team opened their post season by defeating Webster 3-1 last night, Tuesday, October 31. Set scores were 25-16,18-25, 25-22, and 25-14. The rematch came one week after Milbank had downed the Lady Bearcats 3-0 in their final game of the regular season.

Also in Region 1A action, Roncalli swept Tiospa Zina (3-0), Groton Area cleaned up against Waubay-Summit (3-0), and Sisseton toppled Redfield (3-1).

What’s next? Milbank (3) will now face Roncalli (2) on Thursday, November 2.  Groton(1) will take on Sisseton (4) that same night. The winner of each game advances to the championship round.

Milbank 3 vs. Webster 0 – October  24
The Lady Bulldogs celebrated Senior-Parents Night during Milbank’s last game of the regular season against Webster on October 24. The Lady Bulldogs took down the Lady Bearcats in three straight sets at 25-15, 25-23, and 25-23.

Milbank posted a serving rate of 92 percent. They hit 67 of 73, with five aces. Individually, Skyler Skoog recorded 14 of 14. Ella Sandvig, eight of eight; Siera Wenzl, 15 of 16 with three aces; Addisyn Krause, 14 of 15 with one ace; Shaylee Schuchard, eight of nine; Rachel Schulte, seven of nine with one ace; and Abby Pillatzki one of two.

Schulte added 15 kills to her total. Skoog made eight. Schuchard had six. Isabella Anderson and Claire Snaza each made two. Hailey Zinter put up one.

Krause made 14 assists. Schulte contributed 18 assists. Snaza, Schuchard, Skoog, and Krause were each credited with an assisted block 

Schulte also added 20 more digs to the over 400 she has amassed this year. Sandvig recorded 18; Wenzl 16; and Krause and Skoog 13 apiece.

Coach Nancy Hoeke commented on the team’s performance, “We kept ahead in the first set with good hustle and defense. The second and third sets were close, but it was good to see the girls stay in control and play with confidence.”

Seniors on the roster this year include Zinter, Pillatzki, Skoog, Schuchard, Schulte, Kaitlyn Huber.
