Congratulations to Jan Dietman of Milbank! Jan was the lucky winner of the Minnesota Twins Homer Hanky given away by The Valley Express during the playoffs leading to the 2023 World Series. It just so happens, Jan is an ardent Twins fan. She said “I was so happy to win because this Hanky adds to my collection.” She also counts Homer Hankies from 1987 and 1991 amongst her favorite keepsakes.
Jan’s fandom includes attending a Twins game a couple of years ago, where she enjoyed the honor of watching the game from Tony Oliva’s suite. Oliva, as you might remember, was a right fielder and designated hitter for the Twins in the 1960s and 70s. He was the AL Rookie of the Year in 1964, won three AL batting championships, and earned a Gold Glove Award. Oliva was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2022.
Jan said it was exciting to meet Oliva. She was also chauffeured around the Twin Cities in his car, and she left with a souvenir hug from the baseball legend.
