The 32nd Annual South Dakota North Area Honor Band will present their concert on Saturday, December 2, at 4 p.m. at the Johnson Fine Arts Center on the campus of Northern State University. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students in grades 1-12.
Upon nomination by their band director, students who auditioned were seated first in the ensemble, and additional students of high caliber completed the sections. Approximately 100 students representing 22 schools were selected to participate in the 2023 band.
Musicians participating from Milbank High School are:Front Row: Ruth Luis Gomez (junior flute), Camryn Sovell (sophomore trumpet), Krista Nies (sophomore trombone), Yanderyn Olivares Zuniga (sophomore alto sax), Hope Karels (senior bass clarinet), Gemma Street (junior trumpet), Katie Kruger (junior alto sax), Rachel Schulte (senior clarinet), and Sophia Whitlow (senior clarinet).
Second Row: Brooke Mumbauer (senior flute), Sam Shelstad (freshman tuba), Joe Schulte (senior euphonium), Jack terDenge (freshman french horn), Connor Wiik (senior trumpet), Charles Whitesitt (junior trombone), Shane Spiering (junior baritone sax), Alex DelaRosa (junior bass clarinet), Carlos Olivares Zuniga (junior clarinet), and Isabella Vogel (senior flute). The MHS students will be accompanied to the event by Susan Karels, Milbank’s band director for grades 6-12, and Deb Rausch their music lesson instructor.
