Jaxson Wildung put up 20 points for the Bulldogs in their game against Hamlin on Thursday, December 21, but the undefeated Chargers were a force to be reckoned with. Coming into the game with Milbank, they had defeated Groton by 22 points and dismantled Flandreau by 41 points. Milbank took the loss at 63-43.

Logan Diede, head coach for Milbank, said, “I was proud of how our boys competed. Hamlin is one of the best teams in the state, and they are a handful to deal with. Our boys were ready to go from the tip and battled throughout. We didn’t shoot the ball well enough to keep it close down the stretch, but we have a lot of positives to build on from this game…”

‌Garrett Mertens added seven points and three rebounds to Milbank’s totals. He also contributed two blocks. Yohana Ajwanga had six points and five rebounds. Joe Schulte scored six points and made three rebounds. Rick Sam and Emmett Hanson each drained a bucket. Graham Lighfield pulled down five rebounds.

‌The Bulldogs kept pace with the Chargers from two. Milbank shot 42 percent and Hamlin ended at 43 percent. Milbank did not fare as well from beyond the arc. They connected on only one of 11. The Chargers hit eight of 22. The Bulldogs completed six of their nine attempts from the free throw line for nearly 67 percent. The Chargers ended at nearly 88 percent from the line, but Milbank only offered them eight opportunities.

‌Hamlin’s Easton Neuendorf scored a game-high 28 points. Tyson Stevenson added 19 points and four rebounds. Evan Stormo made seven points and five rebounds. Dawson Noem grabbed six rebounds. Zac Van Meeteren had five.

Powered by Este Abrego-Gonzalez, Milbank’s JV team defeated Hamlin 46-41 on Thursday, December 21. Abrego-Gonzalez dumped in 12 points and snagged five rebounds. Braylen Bowsher and Emmett Hanson each added seven points and two rebounds. Hanson made a block. Mason Meister made seven points and one rebound. Sam Rick contributed five points, two rebounds, and two assists. Ryan Keeton scored six points. Josh Pederson made two points and three rebounds.

‌Milbank downed 20 of 39 from the floor for 51 percent and nearly 46 percent from the charity stripe. Hamlin made 15 of 37 from the floor for just over 40 percent and hit seven of 11 for 64 percent from the line.

‌Milbank’s C-Team scored 16 points in the third quarter to pull ahead 27-13 and propel them to a 30-17 victory in their game against Hamlin on Thursday, December 21. Bulldog Layten Osowski scored 13 points and jumped on four rebounds. Garrett Weber had five points and six rebounds. Jaxson Wiese and Sam Wilson each scored three. Wiese added a rebound and two assists. Ethan Owen made a basket, five rebounds, and an assist. Jeter Scoular and Liam Street made one basket apiece. Harley Zemlicka added a block and an assist.

The Bulldogs only committed two personal fouls to stiff the Chargers at the line. Milbank connected on nine of their 13 free throw attempts for 69 percent. Overall, the Bulldogs made almost 26 percent of their shots, and the Chargers downed nearly 24 percent.
