George Heustess, 66, of South Shore, SD, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Avantara in Milbank.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Scotty’s Black Lab Tavern in South Shore.

George Jesse Heustess was born on August 25, 1957, to Charles F. and Lynore (Calder) Heustess in Sacramento, California. He graduated from Rio Linda high school in 1976. George enlisted in the United States Navy and served for a short time before being medically discharged. He was united in marriage with Georgia L. Coy on December 30, 1982, in Sacramento. They were blessed with two children: Kevin and Rene. The family lived in California and Alaska before moving to South Dakota in the early 2000s. While in Alaska, he worked as a mechanic and equipment operator. George was a truck driver all his life and loved spending time on the road.

George was a member of Latter-Day Saints and was an Elder of the church. He served as a Henry, SD. volunteer firefighter and was a member of the 49s Mining Club when he lived in California. He was a wealth of knowledge. He enjoyed researching, genealogy, fishing, and cooking.

George is survived by his wife, Georgia Heustess of Milbank, SD; father, Charles F. (Shirley) Heustess of Henry, SD; son, Kevin (Shelly Gomez) Heustess of South Shore, SD; daughter, Rene (Scott) King of Watertown, SD; two sisters: Teresa (Dale) Peterson of Henry, SD; and Cathlyn (Frederick) Dittenber of Ashley, ND; four brothers: Charles D. Heustess of Buckeye, AZ; Arthur L. (Dorinda) Heustess of Henry, SD; Glenn R. (Rebecca) Heustess of Elverta, CA; and Michael R. (Judy) Heustess of Buckeye, AZ; two grandchildren: Zoey Hubber of Fargo, ND; and Skyler King of Fargo, ND; two great-grandchildren: Easton Hubber and Alex Hubber, both of Fargo, ND; sister-in-law, Earla Russell of West Sacramento, CA; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Lynore I. Calder; paternal grandparents: George and Effie Heustess; maternal grandparents: Neldon Calder and Viola Pearl Isebell; mother-in-law, Lorene L. Coy; and sister-in-law, Margaret Heustess.
