The Lady Bulldogs basketball team obliterated Tospa Zina 79-21 on Tuesday, January 9. Four Milbank players finished in double figures. Fueled by three three-point bombs, Isabella Anderson racked up 15 points, and Tyra Berry, Claire Snaza, and Belle Pauli each put up 12 points. Josie Riveland was right behind them with nine. Averie Schuneman made eight. Siera Wenzl and Anna Neugebauer scored four points apiece. Ella Sandvig dropped in three.

Snaza led the Lady Dogs in rebounding. She claimed eight. Belle Pauli corralled six. Wenzl and Riveland each nabbed four. Anderson and Schuneman grabbed three apiece.

Tiospa Zina enjoyed a five-point lead early in the first quarter, but their dominance was short lived. Once Milbank got into their rhythm, they pulled ahead and never relinquished control of the boards or allowed Tiospa Zina to get close again. At one point in the fourth quarter, the Lady Bulldogs had built up a 61-point lead.

Milbank landed 26 of 60 shots from the floor to finish at 43 percent overall. They were eight of 22 from long range for 36 percent. The Lady Bulldogs downed 19 of 25 from the line for 76 percent.

Tispa Zina struggled at both ends of the court. Mya Deutsch led the Lady Wambdi with eight points and two rebounds. Jaia Bursheim and Hannah Ziegler each recorded  five points. Bursheim grabbed one rebound and Ziegler had two. Lattice Rodlund made three points and two rebounds. Kami Crawforx also hauled in two rebounds.

As a team, Tiospa Zina hit 26 percent of their shots from the floor. They were four of 14 from three for 29 percent. The Lady Wambdi connected on three of their seven free throws to finish at 43 percent.

Milbank’s season record improved to 4-4. They are 1-0 in Region 1A.

What’s next? The Lady Bulldogs host Redfield on Thursday, January 11. Fans can expect lots of action as the Lady Pheasants also hold a 4-4 record so far this season. Redfield lost to Sisseton and Roncalli and defeated Aberdeen Christian, Deuel, and Britton-Hecla.
