The Lady Bulldogs ran roughshod over Waubay-Summit on Tuesday, January 16, in Summit. The final score settled at 67-36. Milbank picked up a conference win and improved their record to 6-4, including a current four-game winning streak.

Tyra Berry ponied up 21 points and Isabella Anderson finished with 20. Berry nailed four baskets from beyond the arc and was perfect at five of five at the line. She also seized an offensive rebound. Belle Pauli added eight points and six rebounds.

Josie Riveland made five points and two rebounds. Anna Neugebauer scored five points, hauled down five rebounds, and made a block. Claire Snaza made three free throws, three rebounds, and a block. Siera Wenzl, Rylee Scoular, and Ella Sandvig each put up two points. Wenzl grabbed two rebounds and Scoular and Sandvig each handled one.

In some areas, Waubay-Summit almost kept up with Milbank. The Lady Bulldogs turned the ball over 13 times, and Waubay-Summit lost possession14 times. The Lady Bulldogs committed 11 fouls to the Lady Mustangs 15. Both teams took 45 shots, but Milbank made 22 and Waubay-Summit connected on just 14. The Lady Bulldogs were also much more lethal from beyond the arc. Milbank landed six of 17 for 35 percent from three and Waubay-Summit made just six of their 23 attempts. Milbank also outscored them at the line. They drained 17 of 24 free throws for 70 percent. Milbank gave Waubay-Summit just five tries at the charity stripe, but the Lady Mustangs hit only two. Waubay-Summit chased down a total of 19 rebounds and Milbank doubled that by controlling 38.

Eva Benike led the Lady Mustangs in scoring with 18 points. She earned 12 of them from beyond the arc. Peyton Rumpza added nine points. Faith Larson had five, and Brianna Lindholm made four. Aubrey Strang contributed three rebounds. Madison Zirbel made two, and Rumpza, Benike, and Eva Breske each made one.

Early in the game, Waubay-Summit held a three point lead, but they saw it dwindle and disappear as the first quarter ended with Milbank holding a five-point lead at 17-12. The Bulldogs never let them get close again.

What’s next? Milbank faces Groton in a conference game at Groton on Thursday, January 18. The Lady Tigers hold a 5-4 season record, but are 3-1 on their home court. They are coming off two wins – one to Tiospa Zina at 62-18 and the other to Clark-Willow Lake at 56-23.
