The Lady Bulldogs defeated Dell Rapids 66-43 during pink night on Monday, January 22, in Milbank. Isabella Anderson and Tyra Berry again made for a dynamic duo. Together they put 42 points in the basket. Anderson drained 22; Berry made 20. Berry knocked in four 3-point buckets; Anderson hit two. Berry made four steals; Anderson robbed Dell Rapids three times. Anderson was perfect at the free throw line; Berry downed six of seven.

Belle Pauli also made it into double figures with 10 points. She pulled down six rebounds. Siera Wenzl matched her with six rebounds. Claire Snaza and Anna Neugebauer added five points apiece. Neugebauer made two rebounds, as did Anderson and Josie Riveland. Riveland and Schuneman each contributed two points. Schuneman made a rebound.

The game remained close until halftime. Milbank led 27-24 going into the break, but the Lady Bulldogs started to hit their stride in the third. Halfway through the third quarter, Dell Rapids led by four points, but Milbank kept applying pressure to the Lady Quarriers and improved their own shot choices. In the first half, the Lady Dogs hit seven of 21 attempts and in the second half they doubled that to 14 of 23.

Overall, Milbank made 61 percent of their shots from the floor, including 62.5 percent from beyond the arc. They collected on 18 of 23 from the line for 67 percent.

Jersi Schultz led Dell Rapids with 12 points and three rebounds. Rorie Thoreson made 11 points and two steals. Josie Price made 10 points. The Lady Quarriers can be commended for doing as well as they did, as all three of those players are eighth graders. Clara Justice added four points, Mya Destigter added three, and Reagan Van Zee made two points and two steals. Elly Olson hit a free throw and four rebounds. Overall, Dell Rapids connected on one of three of their shots from the floor and one of two from the line.

What’s next? The Lady Bulldogs go on the road to face Deuel on Thursday, January 25.The Lady Cardinals sit at 6-6 for the season so far. They recorded wins against Clark-Willow Lake, Webster, and Britton-Hecla. Some of their losses were to Florence-Henry, Arlington, and DeSmet.
