Special Olympics schoolers and adult teams — 25 athletes in all– played during halftime of the Bulldogs girls and boys varsity basketball games at the Milbank Armory on Thursday, January 11. Two Special Olympics cheerleaders spurred them on from the sidelines.

Coach Abbey Trapp said, “These athletes truly deserve to be in the spotlight, and it was incredible to see the support of the community and student body. The athletes will remember this for the rest of their lives because of how the crowd cheered, accepted, and supported them.”

The halftime show highlighted the athletes and got everybody fired up for the Northeast Area Special Olympics Track and Field Day coming up this spring.

Before the games started, Milbank Special Olympics partnered with Valley Queen to offer a tailgate meal. Trapp said, “All the money raised goes directly back to our Special Olympics team. We will use the funds to help cover the cost of the annual Northeast Area Track and Field Event that we will be hosting again on Friday, May 3.”
