Joe Schulte, a 6’6” senior, posted a double-double to lead the Bulldogs in their dual with Deuel on Thursday, January 25. Schulte chalked up 20 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Yohana Ajwanga scored 15 points and six rebounds. Senior Garrett Mertens added eight points and four rebounds. Jaxson Wildung, also a senior, charted seven points, 11 rebounds, and three steals. Junior Graham Lightfield scored five points and pulled down three rebounds. Sam Rick, a freshman, recorded three points, a rebound, and a steal. Junior Emmett Hanson scored one basket and grabbed a rebound.

From the floor, Milbank was on target 25 times to finish with an average of nearly 50 percent. Schulte downed two 3-point shots and the Bulldogs as a team hit 38.5 percent from long range. The Dogs put up a goose egg at the free throw line in the first half but made up for it in the second half by collecting five of six for nearly 56 percent overall.

For the Cardinals, 6’ 2” senior Gabe Sather also notched a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Trey Maaland was Deuel’s top producer with 16 points. Troy Jensen also put up 11 points.

The Cardinals did their best shooting from the charity stripe. They hit nine of 13 for nearly 70 percent. From the floor, they downed just 36 percent from two and 19 percent from three.

The Milbank JV team defeated Deuel on Thursday, January 25, on the road. Bulldog Ryan Keeton scored a game-high 12 points. He also pulled down two rebounds. Jack Howard followed with eight points, three rebounds, and two steals. Sam Rick scored five points .Emmett Hanson made four points and three rebounds. Braylen Bowsher contributed three points and a steal. Josh Pederson, Mason Meister, Howie Zemlicka, Este Abrego-Gonzalez, and Harley Zemlicka each scored a field goal.

The Bulldogs averaged nearly 60 percent from the floor, including 20 percent from long range. They downed three of five from the line for 60 percent. The Cardinals made nine of their 25 shot attempts to finish at 36 percent. Deuel hit 44 percent from outside the arc. They made five of 11 free throws to finish with a 45.5 percent average.

The Bulldogs C team brought down the birds 35-19 on January 25 at Deuel. Layten Osowski set the pace for the dogs with 10 points, an assist, four rebounds, and two steals. Jeter Scoular was next with seven points, an assist, and two rebounds. Jaxson Wiese scored six points and a rebound. Ethan Owen, Mack Koplin, and Harley Zemlicka scored four points apiece. Zemlicka added six rebounds and three steals. Owen added four rebounds and three steals.Lance Engebretson made four rebounds and two steals. Garrett Weber nabbed three rebounds and two steals.. Liam Street grabbed two rebounds and a steal. Bennett Graham and Aiden Kelly each got a steal.

Milbank hit 36 percent of their 42 shot attempts. They landed four of 14 from the line.

Axel Gallardo led the Cardinals with six points. Gavin Maaland and Josh Mitchel scored five points apiece. Emmett Schwiesow made one bucket. Tytian Lausing downed a free throw. Deuel hit 35 percent of their shots overall. They matched the Bulldogs at four of 14 from the stripe for 29 percent.

What’s next? Milbank travels to Aberdeen to take on Roncalli this Friday night, February 2. Both teams sit at 8-5 for the season, but the Cavaliers will sneak in a game with Tiospa Zina on Tuesday before facing the Bulldogs.
