The Bulldog grapplers traveled to Webster to take on Dell Rapids and Lennox on February 1. MHS head wrestling coach, Josh Schmeichel, said, “Because we had a dual with Webster the week before we didn’t face them again.”

Milbank 61 vs. Dell Rapids 18
“First up was Dell Rapids,” Schmeichel said. “Dell Rapids is dealing with injuries and is a young team, so they had a few opens – 106, 126, 132, 138, 165, 190, and 215 were all open weights for Dell Rapids – and also at some weights they wrestled exhibition instead of varsity matches. We ended up wrestling only seven matches, but the Bulldogs came out on top in four of the seven.”

Harrisburg – Girls
This is the first year of girls varsity wrestling in Milbank, and they have been determined to improve,” Schmeichel said. “Originally, this tournament was not on the schedule, but the girls wanted more competition to make themselves better, so this meet was added for them.”

114 Pounds – Aza Scavariel had a really tough draw in the bracket and went against two top-eight ranked wrestlers at 114 in South Dakota. She lost both those matches and ended up going out early in the tournament.
138 Pounds – Mackenzie Mueller started off with a tough draw against the No.1 seed. From there, she battled back in two close matches and beat one opponent by two points and the other by securing a takedown in overtime. She fell in the next two matches to earn a sixth-place finish. Mackenzie is an eighth grader, a first-year wrestler, and one to keep your eye on in upcoming events.
185 Pounds – Kyra Tostenson started off the day by pinning her opponent. She then lost to the No.4- ranked wrestler. She pinned her next opponent to make it into the third and fourth- place match where she lost to another ranked wrestler. However, in the state rankings, Kyra is now listed as No. 12 at 185.
