Lady Bulldogs Win – Advance to Region Semifinals

The fourth-seeded Lady Bulldogs defeated the No. 5 seed, Waubay-Summit, in the Region 1A quarterfinals on Tuesday, February 20 in Sisseton. The final score was 53-37.

In other quarterfinal action, No. 1 Sisseton – the fourth-rated team in the state –crushed the Wambdi of Tiospa Zina 86-22. Third-seeded Roncalli beat No. 7 Redfield 43-37. No. 2 Groton Area defeated No. 6 Webster 50-31.

The semifinal games are set for Thursday, February 22 at 7 p.m. Milbank will be pitted against Sisseton in Sisseton. Groton will travel to Aberdeen to face Roncalli. Both games start at 7 p.m. The winners advance to the SoDak 16.

Milbank’s win against Waubay-Summit was fueled by 17 points and three assists from Isabella Anderson and 10 points apiece from Tyra Berry and Claire Snaza. Josie Riveland put up eight points. Belle Pauli made four. Anna Neugebauer and Averie Schuneman each got a basket.

Pauli led Milbank with eight rebounds. Snaza had five. Berry had four. Riveland and Anderson each had three. Schuneman, Rylee Scoular, and Neugebauer made one apiece. Scoular added an assist and Neugebauer blocked one shot.

Faith Larson scored 17 points for Waubay-Summit. Eva Benike made eight. Kayce Berger scored four. Audrey Strang and Madison Zirbel put up three apiece. Mackenzie Zubke scored two points.. Benike and Strang each pulled down four rebounds. Faith Larson and Ava Breske had three apiece. Zubke got two.

Milbank collected 47 percent of their shots from the floor, including 28 percent from long range. Waubay-Summit made 31 percent overall, including 23 percent from behind the arc. Milbank landed six of nine from the line. Waubay-Summit received two attempts from the stripe — both in the first half. They made one.
