The 74th Annual South Dakota All-State Band will practice and perform at T.F. Riggs High School in Pierre March 21-23. Hope Karels and Joe and Rachel Schulte, all seniors at Milbank High School, were selected for this year’s event. Karels was chosen as the fourth chair clainet for the Lewis band. J. Schulte was selected as the first chair euphonium for the Clark Band. R. Schulte was chosen as the 15th chair clarinet in the Clark Band. The culminating concert begins at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 23.
The bands will be under the direction of Shanti Simon from the University of Oklahoma and Carolyn Barber from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. MHS tudents will be accompanied to Pierre by Susan Karels, the band director for grades 6-12 in the Milbank School District. Deb Rausch assisted the musicians with lessons in preparation for the state auditions.
H. Karels is the daughter of Jason and Susan Karels. J. and R. Schulte are the children of Dave and Elizabeth Schulte.
