Bonita Nelson, age 83, of Revillo, SD, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024, at St. William’s Care Center in Milbank, SD.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank, SD. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. Interment will be at Revillo Cemetery following the service.

Bonita Joyce (Bunting) Nelson was born on March 25, 1940, in Madison, MN. She was the daughter of Walter and Pearl (Nelson) Bunting. Bonita grew up northeast of Albee, SD, attended country school in Vernon Township of Grant County. She later attended Revillo High School, graduating in 1958.

On April 14, 1960, Bonita was united in marriage with Neiland Nelson. Together, they were blessed with three children.

Throughout her life, Bonita exhibited a profound commitment to education and service. As a dedicated secretary in the Grant-Deuel School system for 22 years, she touched the lives of countless students and staff members with her dedication and kindness. Once a teacher herself, Bonita’s passion for learning and growth was evident in all she did.

Apart from her professional successes, Bonita was also a dedicated mother, wife, grandmother, and volunteered as the township clerk.

Bonita’s love for the simple joys of life was unending. Whether tending to her garden, embarking on bus tours, or exploring new destinations through travel, she found happiness in every moment. Her love for nature, books, dance, and fishing reflected her vibrant spirit and zest for life.

Left to cherish Bonita’s memory are her husband of 63 years, Neiland Nelson of Revillo, SD; son, Paul (Lori) Nelson of Strandburg, SD; daughter, Holly (Randy) Peterson of Lakeville, MN; four grandchildren: Derek (Melissa) Nelson, Brady Nelson (Cory Powell), Corie (Adam) McHale, and Camryn (John) Prondzinski; six great-grandchildren: Draper Nelson, Mayda Nelson, Dirks Nelson, Decker Nelson, Hailey Prondzinski, and Emily Prondzinski; brother, Gordon (Gail) Bunting; and sister, Ellen (Dennis) Guldan.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Walter and Pearl Bunting; and son, Brian Nelson.
