James “Jim” Harms, 69, of Milbank, SD, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, in Milbank.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 18, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Corona, SD. Rev. Arthur Drehman will officiate. Burial will be at Kilborn Cemetery near Corona. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 17, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank and will close with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Monday, one hour prior to the service.  

James “Jim” William Harms was born on  January 18, 1955 to Kenneth and Gloria (Van Hoorn) Harms at St. Bernard’s Hospital in Milbank, SD. James was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Corona, SD. He grew up in Corona and attended school there until 9th grade. 

After his education he worked on the Gerhart Aschwedge farm until he was 18. Then he worked at  Milbank Mutual for a summer. He then took a job at the granite quarry for a couple of years before later working at the Big Stone Power Plant during its construction. Jim went back to the quarry for a bit before driving gravel truck for his cousin. In 1976, Jim moved to Las Vegas, NV. In Summer of 1994, he married Linda (Boyer) in Las Vegas, NV. The couple was blessed with their son, Justin. Jim worked at a casino where he was a slot attendant and went to school to become a slot technician, he worked repairing slot machines until May 4, 2002. He then ran his HVAC business until 2016, when he fully retired. In June 2021, he moved to Milbank, SD.

Jim was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Corona. He enjoyed having a beer at the Wildlife bar in Corona. Jim’s parents owned the bar when he was a kid, and he had many fond memories of time spent there. He also enjoyed auto mechanics in is younger years. 

Jim is survived by his son: Justin Harms of Milbank, SD; two sisters: Debbie (Brian) Frerichs of Corona, SD; and Dawn (Bob) Dineen of Sioux Falls, SD; and one brother, Joel Harms of Las Vegas, NV, and many nieces and nephews. Jim is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Linda, and special dog, L.J.
