Verlyn Frances (Klock) Loof was born on June 10, 1923, to Dick and Tillie (Weeldryer) Klock and grew up on a farm near Chancellor, SD. She was the second born of five siblings and attended country school. She was a member of the Chancellor Baptist Church where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized in March of 1938.

On March 19, 1948, Verlyn was united in marriage to Herman A. Loof at her parent’s home. Following their marriage, the couple resided in rural Wilmot, SD, until 1949. From there, they moved to Chancellor from 1949 until 1956 when they purchased a farm near Corona, SD. They were blessed with three daughters who attended Corona School. In 1983, they retired and moved into Milbank after 48 years of farming. Herman passed away on April 24, 1995, of heart failure.

Verlyn was a member of Corona Baptist Church before joining Valley Baptist Church in Milbank. She enjoyed singing in the church choir, being involved in VBS and Awana, and serving in the kitchen. She also volunteered at the Community Thrift Store. Verlyn loved to sew and was a talented seamstress which included sewing dresses, wedding dresses, any or all types of clothing, patching jeans, and making quilts. She wasn’t afraid to tackle most anything that needed fixing or adjusting. She was part of the team that sewed baby blankets for premature babies with Eunice Sprung for “Sew Special”. She was active in Women’s Missionary Fellowship as White Cross coordinator for many years. She loved and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and followed their events. Most of the family Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings were hosted by her until the last few years. She was faithful to God and was often asleep in her chair with an open Bible in her lap.

Verlyn is survived by her daughters and their spouses: Barb (Wayne) Bear of Milbank, SD; Phylis (Ron) Waterfall of Milbank, SD; and Diane (Joel) Newton of Sioux Falls, SD; nine grandchildren: Jeff (Gayl) Bear, Scott (Bridget) Bear, Jason (Jody) Bear, Kalen (Nicole) DeBoer, Tara (Jesse) Krause, Tyler DeBoer (Nicole Nedved), Derek (Mandy) Harsch, Matt (Kelsey) Harsch, and Marcy (Matt) Moen; 14 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and their families; two brothers: Virgil Klock of Sioux Falls, SD; and Lowell (Carol) Klock of Auburn, WA; and sister-in-law, Joyce Klock of Sioux Falls, SD.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman; sister, Myrtle Olthoff; and brothers: Myron Klock and Earl Klock (as an infant).
