MHS seniors Joe Schulte and Hope Karels played in the 74th Annual High School All- State Band Grand Concert at T.F. Riggs High School in Pierre on March 23. Schulte plays the euphonium and Karels is a bass clarinetist. Senior Rachel Schulte, who plays the clarinet, was selected for the event, but was unable to attend due to illness.
Karels performed with the Lewis Band under the direction of Dr. Shanti Simon. Selections included “Kirkpatrick Fanfare” by Andrew Boysen,“Of Our New Day Begun” by Omar Thomas, “Danzon No. 2” by Marquez andNickel, and “The White Rose March” by Sousa.
J. Schulte played with the Clark Band under the direction of Dr. Carolyn Barber. The Clark Band performed “Persieds” by Alexandra Gardner, Mare Tranquillitatis by Roger Zare, and “Give Us This Day” by David Maslankae.
Susan Karels, director of the MHS band, accompanied the Milbank students to the event. If you missed the concert, see it on SDPB TV on April 20 at 8 p.m.
