The MHS track and field teams broke nine school records – the boys toppled five and the girls toppled four– at the Scott Underwood Invitational held indoors at SDSU in Brookings on April 1. The Milbank boys placed third with 61 points, and the girls tied for sixth with 36 points. Head coach Eric Townsend said, “There were a number of other surprises and personal bests at the meet, also.” 

“Overall, it was a great way to start the season and an awesome opportunity to see where we are,” Townsend said, “Both of our teams showed they are in a great position to have an outstanding season.”  

Boys Results:
Emmett Hanson broke the indoor school records in the 110 and 300-Meter Hurdles. Hanson’s time in the 110-meter hurdles was 16.17. It also earned him sixth place at the meet. Graham Lightfield followed at 17.19. Hanson’s new record in the 300-Meter Hurdles was 44.33. It was also good for fourth place at the meet. Lightfield came in at 44.85 to take seventh place. 

Payton Brown set a new MHS record of 10.02.07 in the 3200-Meter Run. His time also earned him first place at the meet. James Batchelor took third place at the meet with his time of 10.14.04. Rylan Wendland recorded 12:56.37.  The 800-Meter Relay team composed of Garrett Weber, Joe French, Harley Zemlicka, and Jayden Johnson set a new school record of 1:39.32. They also took  home eighth place from the meet. 

The 3200-Meter Relay team made up of Batchelor, Bryan Meyer, Beckham Berry, and Brown took third place with their time of 8.31.08 .

In the 100-Meter Dash, Weber recorded 12.56; Lance Engebretson, 12.79; Micah Tostenson,12.9; and Jaxson Wiese,13.37. In the 1600-Meter Run, Berry came in at 5:11.91 and Jeter Scoular recorded 5.38.45. Jose Ramirez ran the race, but his time of 6:00.00 could not be confirmed. 

The 400-Meter Relay team of Weber, Wiese, Engebretson, and Tostenson compiled a time of 49.73. In the 400-Meter Dash, Meyer took eight place with his time of 54.52. French recorded 56.15.

Ramirez, Scoular, and Liam Street ran the 800-Meter Run with times of 2.42.58, 2.41.62, and 2.24.21, respectively. Meyer ran the 200-Meter Dash in 24.94. 

The Bulldog Relay team of Berry, Zemlicka, Street, and Meyer put up a time of 3:56.23. 

On the field, Johnson took first place in the Pole Vault competition at 12’ 0”. Sam Rick also recorded 12’ 0’ to earn second place. Bryton Blauer had a vault of 9’ 6” to take home eighth place for the Bulldogs. Zemlicka made a 5’ 4.25” jump in the High Jump.  Rick captured second place for Milbank in the Triple Jump with a total of  41’ 0.5”. Layten Osowski fouled during his jump and it was not recorded. In the Long Jump, Osowski put up a 16’ 6” jump and French reached 15’ 8.25”. In the Shot competition, Oliver Korth marked 42’ .05”. Luca Johnson reached 35’ 6.75”, and Moises Luna Sanchez hit 32’ 3”.

Girls Results:
The Lady Bulldogs 3200-Meter Relay team composed of Ashlynn Batchelor, Zayda Townsend, Ella Koplin, and Bianca Berry etched a time of 10:25.14 to win third place at the meet and set a new indoor MHS record. The 800-Meter Relay team also set a new indoor school record with their time of 1:58.72.  Ella Sandvig, Addison Pauli, Avery Schuneman, and Rylee Scoular made up the team. 

In the 200 and 400-Meter Dashes, Siera Wenzl set new school records. In the 400, she recorded a 1:01.22, which also earned third place at the meet. Schuneman followed at 1:07.97. In the 200-meter dash, with her time of 27.42, Wenzl took third place at the meet along with her school record. 

The Bulldog Relay team composed of Jacy Dexter, Batchelor, Z. Townsend, and Wenzl took third place and set a new MHS record at 4:22.43. In the 100-Meter Hurdles, Claire Snaza recorded 18.57. In the 100-Meter Dash, Dexter put up 13.96; Bree Townsend, 14.56; Pauli,14.84; and Lydia Gall, 15.97. 

A. Batchelor took seventh place in the 1600-Meter Run at 5:28.49. Stella Wendland recorded 6:08.61, and L. Meyer crossed the line at 6:31.42. In the 400-Meter Relay, Townsend, Brooke Hendricks, Gall, and Schuneman finished with a 57.92.  Snaza cleared the hurdles in the 300-Meter Hurdles event at 55.71. In the 800-Meter Run, Koplin finished at  2:31.26, and Leah Meyer at  2:58.91. In the 3200-Meter Run, Bianca Berry came in at 13:25.70 and S. Wendland was just behind her at 13:29.18. 

In the Pole Vault competition, Dexter earned third place at 10’ 0”.  Maggie Kruger notched a 9’ 6” vault to take home fifth place. R. Scoular put up a 7’ 6” vault for the Lady Bulldogs. In the Shot division, Anna Neugebauer landed one at 27’ 6”. B. Townsend hit 24’ 5.75”.  In the triple jump, Neugebauer recorded  29’ 1.75”. Sandvig hit 27’ 9.5”. Hendricks recorded 4’ 4” in the high jump. Neugebauer recorded a long jump of 13’ 1.5”, and Sandvig jumped 12’ 10.5”.

What’s next? Milbank travels to the Huron Invitational tomorrow, Friday April 5.
