The Bulldogs started their 2024 tennis season at a triangular with Sioux Falls Jefferson and Yankton in Yankton on Friday, April 5. Abbey Trapp, head coach for Milbank, commented, “The boys played well for their first matches of the season. They did not go down without a fight against Jefferson. Many of the boys went into three sets and tiebreakers. Overall, it was a fantastic start to the season.”

Milbank finished 6-0 in singles and 2-1 in doubles to take the 8-1 loss facing Sioux Falls Jefferson. In the Bulldogs’ closest matches in singles play, Joe Schulte at No. 1, fell 6-7 (5-7) and 2-6 to Charlie Ginsmer and Gregory Grabow at No. 3 went down 3-6, 6-4, and 5-10 to Charlie Erickson. At No. 2, Charles Whitesitt was defeated by Blake Walter 0-6 and 3-6. Will Muellenbach went down against Carter Kemmis at 2-6 and 5-7. Daniel Shelstad also took the loss in two – both at 1-6. Alex Baugh was defeated 2-6 and 3-6.

Milbank’s lone win against the Cavaliers was posted by the doubles duo of Whitesitt and Muellenbach. They beat Walter and Kemmis in battle at 0-6, 7-5 (7-5), and 10-8. Schulte and Grabow went down against Gismer and Erickson 2-6 and 3-6. Shelstad and Baugh were overwhelmed at 2-6 and 0-6.

In their match against Yankton, Milbank had a tough day on the courts.The Bucks claimed a 9-0 sweep. In singles, Schulte went down against Zachary Briggs 0-10. Whitesitt was defeated by Harrison Kajewski 2-10. Grabow was defeated by Christopher Rockne 2-10. Muellenbach went down at 3-10 against Patrick Kralicek. Shelstad was defeated 2-10 by Miles Krajewski, and Baugh lost 1-10 against Ethan Marsh.

In doubles, Schulte and Grabow were defeated by Briggs and H. Krajewski 0-10. Whitesitt and Muellenbach were defeated by Rockne and Kralicek 3-10. Shelstad and Baugh lost 2-10 against M. Krajewski and Marsh.
