Whetstone Valley Strings students presented a recital at Living Word Lutheran Church in Milbank on Sunday, April 7. Elementary orchestra students performed “Hoedown” and “Viva La Twinkle” by Dan and Heidi Goeller. The advanced orchestra played “The Star Spangled Banner” and “Momentum” by Robert Longfield. Students performed violin and cello solos from Suzuki Books 1-3, hymn arrangements, and a Mozart concerto by Joe Schulte. Graduating seniors Nicholas Fonder and Rachel and Joe Schulte were honored with a video edited by Dave Schulte and a canvas art gift.
Achievements this semester: Alex and Natalie Jimenez and Lilianna Seyer: Twinkle Graduation; Elizabeth Fonder: Book 1 Half-Book Review; Carrie Wipf: Book 1 Graduation; Annette Tschetter: Book 2 Graduation; Gingerich: Book 3 Graduation; Northern Area Honors Orchestra: Veronica Fonder, Gingerich, Anika Olson and R. Schulte; SDMEA Middle School All-State members: Joseph and Traci Tschetter, Teaneashea Vogel, Alana and Kelsey Wipf; Solo and Ensemble Contest: N. and V. Fonder, J. and R. Schulte, and Olson; Beauty and the Beast pit orchestra and SDSU music scholarship: J. Schulte. D. Schulte recorded the recital and ran video and sound.
Whetstone Valley Strings was started in Milbank seven years ago by Elizabeth Schulte, a certified Suzuki teacher with master’s degrees in violin performance and string pedagogy from Ohio State University.
