“The South Dakota National Guard (SDNG) Invite held in Milbank was a great opportunity to compete at home in very good weather conditions. We moved the meet from Thursday to Friday (April 12)  in hopes of better weather and it was very nice,” stated Eric Townsend, head coach for the Bulldog track and field teams. “This is the first time we have hosted the SDNG Invite on its scheduled date since 2017.”

The boys ate and left no crumbs. They clinched eight first-place finishes. They also added three second-place, two third-place, five fourth-place, four fifth-place, one sixth-place, two seventh-place, and two eighth-place finishes.

The girls also locked in for two first-place, three second-place, five third-place, six fourth-place, four fifth-place, three sixth-place, one seventh-place, and one eighth-place finishes.

Individually, there were a number of outstanding performances,” Townsend said. For the Lady Bulldogs, Anna Neugebauer broke the school record in the javelin throw with a distance of 79′ 11″. Tuesday Gastineau made the top 10 at No. 8 with her throw of 39′ 5″. Krista Nies also joined the top 10 at No.10  at 31′ 4″.

Harley Zemlicka broke the 110-meter hurdle record for ninth grade with his time of 16.59.  Payton Brown moved to No. 2 on the MHS varsity honor roll in the 3200-meter run. He clocked in at 9:49.99. In the javelin competition, Layten Osowski moved to No. 2 at MHS. He recorded a throw of 110′ 10″.  Mason Allen established the ninth-grade javelin record and moved to No. 3 on the varsity honor roll with his throw of 109′ 10″. Aiden Kelly moved to No. 4  with his toss of 105′ 1″.  Liam Street cracked the top 10 at No. 8, when he hit 82′ 9″. Jeryn Borman now sits at No. 10 on the list after he pitched it  80′ 6″.  

“Overall, we had quite a number of individuals who had a really good day and placed high,” Townsend commented. “Many achieved season and personal bests.”

What’s next ? The Bulldog track and field teams are scheduled to travel to Aberdeen Central on Monday, April 22, for HS Track (Pole Vault/Javelin) and then on Tuesday, April 23 to Groton for HS Track.
April 19, HS Track at Watertown has been Canceled and April 19, JH Track at Deuel Canceled.
