Bonnie Bergquist, age 89, of Milbank, SD, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at St. William’s Care Center.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the St. William’s Care Center Chapel in Milbank, SD. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Pastor Brian McFaden will officiate, and inurnment will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Bellingham, MN.

Bonnie Lee (Hegge) Bergquist was born on January 22, 1935, in Fergus Falls, MN, to Iner and Laura (Snowbeck) Hegge. She was baptized and confirmed at First English Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. Bonnie attended school in Fergus Falls and graduated from Fergus Falls High School with the Class of 1953. Following her graduation, she embarked on various adventures, residing in locations such as Chicago, IL, Texas, and the Minneapolis/St. Paul area before settling in Big Stone City, SD, in 2008.

Throughout her life, Bonnie was a hard worker. From her early days as a roller-skating waitress to her dedicated service at establishments like Mecca Sportswear, Powers Department Store Controller, Fritzie Fresh Candy, and Kindy Optical, her work ethic and commitment were unwavering.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Bonnie found joy in community engagement, being a part of the St. Paul Winter Carnival Guild, Daughters of the American Revolution, engaging in Bible studies, exploring her family genealogy, traveling, and cherishing moments with her grandchildren. Her zest for life and warm presence touched the hearts of all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Left to cherish Bonnie’s memory are her loving daughter, Sue (John) Stolpman of Bellingham, MN; three grandchildren: Robert (Elizabeth) Stolpman, Nicholas (Jackie) Stolpman; and Bonnie Sue (Chris) Smith; five great-grandchildren: Henry, George, Elliott, Isla, and Baylor; special niece, Lori Jo Schiesser; along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter Bergquist; son, Craig Aune; sister, Kathleen; and brother, Art.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Bonnie’s memory to St. William’s Care Center.
