Kadence Rausch-Frank, a senior at MHS, brought home second place with her piece, Reverence, in the oil painting division at the 28th Annual All-Dakota High School Fine Art Exhibition sponsored by Dacotah Prairie Museum in Aberdeen. The show and judging were held at the Aberdeen Recreation and Cultural Center on April 17-18.

MHS art students competed individually and as a team. The students were also offered the opportunity to attend workshops taught by local artists highlighting techniques such as tooling leather, making paper, and creating monotype prints. Ashley Plummer, art instructor at MHS, accompanied the Milbank students.

This year, 140 artists in grades 7-12 from 17 schools across South and North Dakota participated. Natasha Kaderabek of Northwestern Area High School won Best in Show. Her award helped Northwestern also clinch the team title for South Dakota. Gallery awards included first, second, and third place in seven media categories and a Best of Show cash prize. Other awards included best school team from North Dakota, middle school student honorable mention, daily student-choice winners. and the teacher-nominated Rising Star Award.

What’s next? According to Plummer, the art on display at The Bank coffee shop on Main Street in Milbank has allowed the seniors in Advanced Studio to showcase their work and offer it for sale. During the first week of April, Brooke Mumbauer, Addy Hoke, and Aryianna Butler were featured. This week, see the work of Raush-Frank, Sophia Gastineau, and Amelia Pederson. Attend the trio’s reception on Thursday, April 25, to meet the artists and discuss their work.
