Milbank schools will open for classes at 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday August 20. Registration is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday August 6-7.  Registration Hours: Tuesday, August 6 from 8 a.m to 1 p.m. and Wednesday, August 7, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. School pictures will also be taken for all schools.

Registration for the elementary, middle, and high school will be held in the Milbank Elementary School gym. Students and parents in all grades are asked to report during that time. It is extremely important that the school has correct mailing addresses and phone contact information. Parents will be asked to fill out medical emergency information for each student.

Special Olympics will be serving malts on both registration days – on August 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and August 7, from 9 a.m.until 4 p.m. A free will donation is requested.

The Milbank Elementary School, Milbank Middle School  and Milbank High School offices opened on Monday, July 29.. Principals, secretaries, and teachers have begun preparing for the start of the 2024-2025 school term.

When school fees are paid at registration, it makes the first days easier and teachers are able to concentrate on the needs of their students rather than the administrative details.

School Pictures
School pictures for all Milbank students, K–12, will be taken during registration. This includes the seniors, as they need to have their photo taken for their ID card. Picture packets must be paid for when ordered. A separate check payable to Tailfeather Photography is required for photos..

Student and Parent Orientations/Open House
Milbank Elementary School is conducting an Open House for all students and parents on August 14 from 4 -6 p.m. Come and see the classrooms and visit with the staff.

Milbank Middle School is having an orientation for all students in grade 6 and any new middle school students and their parents on August 14 at 5:30 p.m.in the theater.

Milbank Middle School is also having an Open House for all students in grades 6, 7 and 8 and their parents on August 14 from 6 – 7 p.m.

Milbank High School will hold a meeting for all ninth graders and ninth-grade parents on August 21 at 7 p.m. in the theater.

All Seasons Sports Meeting
A sports meeting will not be held in person. The information will be posted online by a link. Please watch for this on our school website, facebook, and the school app.

Fees
Visa, Master Card, and Discover credit cards can be used for fees that are affiliated with the school district.

Breakfast (Student K-12) $2.45 per meal
Lunch (Student K-5) $3.45 per meal
Lunch (Student 6-12) $3.70 per meal
Breakfast (Adult) $2.80 per meal
Lunch (Adults) $4.85 per meal
Milk $ .50 per carton

Activity – Concert Tickets
Activity/Concert tickets for students can be purchased at registration. Activity tickets admit students to all locally sponsored school activities for the entire year.

Grades 1-8 — $20 per year
Grades 9-12 —  $25 per year

Individual admission to games and concerts are $5 for adults and $3 for students, with the exception of double header games which cost $6 for adults and $4 for students. Homecoming Coronation and Prom Grand March will have an admission fee of $2.

Adult activity/concert passes for all locally-sponsored events can be purchased in the Central Office at any time. Passes can’t be shared between individuals. Season passes will be available for $100. A 10-punch pass is $40. The 10-punch passes can only be used for the 2024-2025 school year. Senior Citizen, age 65 and over, activity passes will be available for an annual fee of $25. These can also be purchased in the Central Office anytime.

Band Students
Sarlettes Music will be on hand in the band hallway on August 14 from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m., for all your band needs.

High School Band Students
High school band students should report to the band room during registration for band uniform fitting. Mrs. Karels will be available both days in the band room. If you are not able to come during registration, please talk with Mrs. Karels. Freshman band parents are encouraged to come to the uniform fitting to visit briefly with Mrs. Karels.

MHS Band students are asked to mark their calendars for the first band rehearsal on  Wednesday, August 14 at  7:30 – 8 p.m. 

Parking Passes
Students who plan to drive to school, will be required to obtain a new parking pass. This process requires filling out the application and paying the $10 fee at the payment table at registration or in the high school office.

New Students
New students are asked to present a certified copy of their birth certificate, a copy of immunizations records, and Social Security number. (Please note the hospital copy of a birth certificate is not official and cannot be accepted by the school.)

Students new to the district are urged to visit their school building during regular office hours. Principals and their staff will be glad to give a tour of the building, assist with locker combinations, and answer questions.

School Nurse – Immunizations
School nurses will be available to discuss any student health concerns or to answer questions about immunizations. Parents will be asked to fill out medical emergency information.

All students need to have immunizations up to date in order to be admitted to school. The school nurses will be on hand during registration and, if they have not already done so, all kindergarten parents should report during registration to present their student’s immunization record.

According to South Dakota law, minimum vaccine requirements for kindergarten through grade 12 are:
1. Four or more doses of diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis-containing vaccine (DPT). At least one dose must have been given on or after age 4.
2. Three or more doses of poliovirus vaccine. At least one dose must have been given on or after age 4.
3. Two doses of measles/mumps/rubella virus (MMR) after the age of 12 months.
4. Chickenpox (varicella) immunization or verification that the child has had the disease.

Entry into 6th grade school year across the state need:
Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, Pertussis)
MCV4 (Meningococcal ACYW)

(Students age 11 or older are required to get one dose of the Tdap vaccine as well as MCV4 vaccine to enter sixth grade. The new law also requires all transfer students entering grades 6 – 12 to receive the vaccinations. Students entering sixth grade who are 10 years old will have 45 days after turning 11 to be vaccinated.)
