Eric Townsend, head coach for the MHS cross country teams says, “ It’s hard to believe, but we are about two weeks from the official start of the 2024 season. Townsend outlined information and the practice schedule for the first days for both boys and girls in grades 7-12.

Thursday, August 15  – 
First practice at 8 a.m. at the high school AND 
9 p.m. Flashlight Relay at the track
Grades 7, 9, 11–ImPact Testing at the high school after morning practice 

Friday, August 16 – Practice at  8 a.m. at the high school 

Monday, August 19
Practice at  8 a.m. at the high school. 
Parent and Athlete Meeting at  7 p.m. 

Tuesday, August 20 – First Day of School – Normal practice time at  3:30 p.m. 

Wednesday August 21– Normal practice time – 3:30 p.m.

Thursday, August 22—Normal practice time at 3:30 pm 

Friday – Saturday/ August  23-24 – Camp Fun at Camp NeSoDak—
Leave at 4 p.m. on Friday.  Arrive back in Milbank on Saturday at 5 p.m.  (More info to come later.)

Other reminders and information: 
1. Please make sure all physicals have been taken care of prior to August 15. ALL athletes need a physical prior to being allowed to practice. 
NO PHYSICAL = NO PRACTICE. 
2. Every athlete in grades 7, 9, 11, and anyone who did not take it last year,  need to take the ImPACT test (concussion test). The scheduled time for Cross Country is after the first practice on August 15. 
3. School athletic forms and the athletic department meeting will need to be completed online. Here is the link: https://www.milbankschooldistrict.com/page/parent-athlete-meeting
4. Don’t forget the parent-athlete meeting on Monday, August 19. at 7 pm.
5. Spread the word to others who might be interested in being a part of the 2024 cross country team. 
6. Athletes are encouraged to keep or start running on your own prior to August 15.
