The MHS girls tennis team opened their 2024 season against Harrisburg and Lennox on Saturday, August 17. Milbank’s head coach, Abbey Trapp, remarked, “The players had really good points and some very close matches against Lennox.”

Facing Harrisburg, the Lady Bulldogs took an  8-1 loss. Milbank’s only victory in singles came from Ashlynn Lamp at No. 2. She defeated Kyleigh Goodrich 10-7.  Jenna Korstjens at No. 1 suffered a 10-2 loss against McKenzie Vickery. No. 3  Caitlyn Frerichs was defeated 10-0 by Jessi Muth. Jericho Jones at No. 4 went down 10-2 against Noa Lovro. No. 5 Payton Lamp lost to Hannah Frye 10-1. Charlotte Swanson at No. 6 was defeated by Laney Christensen 10-0.

In doubles action, Korstjens and A. Lamp fell to Vickery and Goodrich 10-1.Frerichs and Jones went down to Muth and Lovro 10-0. P. Lamp and Swanson took a 10-2 loss against Frye and Hope Gabel. 

In their match against Lennox, Milbank held their own but they were eventually overcome 7-2. Jones took down Reba Schroeeder 10-7 and Swanson defeated Grace Wood 10-6. 

Korstjens was defeated by Ella Ellwein 10-3. A. Lamp took a 10-5 loss from Sierra Wesseling. Frerichs lost to Lily Kezar 10-2. P. Lamp was defeated 10-9 (7-4) in her battle with Izzy Gerdes. 

Milbank lost all three in doubles. Korstjens and A. Lamp at 10-6 against Ellwein and Kezar; Frerichs and Jones at 10-1 against Wesseling and Schroeder, and P. Lamp and Swenson against Gerdes and Wood.
