At their second outing of the season, the MHS girls tennis team clashed with Huron and Sioux Falls Christian at a triangular at Tomar Park in Sioux Falls on Monday August 19. Milbank’s head coach, Abbey Trapp, said, “Both teams are very strong, and the girls kept fighting for every point.”

In taking on the Lady Tigers of Huron, Milbank went down 9-0. No 1 Jenna Korstjens took a 10-1 loss from Anne Claire Rubish. No. 2  Ashlynn Lamp was defeated 10-2 by Say Glay.  No. 3 Caitlyn Frerichs  lost 10-1 to Ann Hoek. Jericho Jones at No. 4 was defeated 10-0 by Paw Kler Moo. No. 5 Payton Lamp lost to Madeline Kleinsasser 10-2. No. 6 Charlotte Swanson was defeated by Idella Meyer 10-0.

In doubles play, Milbank took three losses. Korstjens and A. Lamp were defeated 10-6 by Rubish and Hoek. Frerichs and Jones were defeated by Glay and Moo 10-0. P. Lamp and Swanson lost 10-6 to Kleinsasser and Meyer. Lady Bulldogs Bri Hicks and Dana Chan were defeated 8-0 in exhibition play.

The Lady Bulldogs suffered a 9-0 loss against the Lady Chargers of Sioux Falls Christian. Korstjens was defeated 10-1 by Anna Westenberg. A. Lamp was defeated by Mackenzie Boyle 10-2. Frerichs was defeated by Kasey Lemstra 10-0. Jones went down to Eisley Roark 10-1. P. Lamp lost to Dani Vanderdussen 10-2 and Swanson fell to Piper DeBoer, also at 10-2.

In fierce doubles play, Korstjens and A. Lamp lost 10-2 to Westenberg and Boyle. Frerichs and Jones were defeated 10-1 by Lemstra and Roark. P. Lamp and Swanson hung tough but took the loss at 10-5.

What’s next for the Lady Bulldogs? This Friday and Saturday August 23-24  Milbank travels to Madison to join nine other teams – Madison, Spearfish, Sioux Falls Christian, Aberdeen Roncalli, Huron, St. Thomas More, Rapid City Christian, Pierre T.F. Riggs, and Lennox – for a great weekend of girls tennis action. If the weather forecast is correct, fans can expect partly cloudy skies with temps in the mid to low 80s.
