Jonathan DeBoer, a junior on the MHS golf team, “was slow out of the gate but came back strong,” according to Milbank’s head coach, Mark Keeton. DeBoer scored an even-par 72 to secure the second-place finish at the Sioux Valley Invitational at Meadow Creek Golf Course in Volga on Monday, August 19. Ryan Keeton and Owen Fischer also earned medals. R. Keeton claimed 11th place and Fischer took 13th. Each shot an 83. Charlie Peery tallied an 88 (20th) for the Bulldogs and Gregory Grabow hit 111. TateSteffensen of the Sioux Valley Blue was the individual medalist. He carded a 70 at two under par.
The top four teams jockeyed for position all day with Milbank ending up in fourth place. “ It was a tight team race with only eight strokes separating first and fourth,” Coach Keeton noted.

- Aberdeen Roncalli – 321
- Groton – 322
- Milbank – 326

“It was a great test to see where we stand in what is going to be a very competitive region,” Coach Keeton said. “It feels good to get back out on the course, and the boys were treated to some great weather. Very pleased with how the boys competed today.”
What’s next for the Bulldogs? Milbank will host the POET Invitational at Whetstone Creek Golf Course just north of Milbank on Thursday, August 22. The invite is set to start at 10 a.m. Teams and fans can look forward to mild temps, topping out around 80, with a chance of showers in the morning and the possibility of thunderstorms later in the day.
