Lady Bulldogs Spar With Madison in Battle of the Bulldogs

Tuesday, August 27, turned out to be a great day for the girls tennis Battle of the Bulldogs  in Milbank – great weather, great courts, great sportsmanship on both sides, and great scores. In the end, Milbank was edged out by Madison by just one point at 5-4.

At Cantine Courts, the Lady Bulldogs notched three wins in singles with victories from Jericho Jones  at No. 4,  Peyton Lamp at No. 5, and Charlotte Swanson at No. 6. Jones defeated Miranda Gronyo 6-2 and 6-3. Lamp defeated Aubrey Allen 6-3 and 6-2. Charlotte Swanson claimed the victory at 7-5, 4-6, (10-4) in her skirmish with Lydia Breddin. In another close match, Jenna Kortsjens was defeated  by Delilah Maxwell 2-6, 6-4, (10-12). Ashlynn Lamp also took a loss in a tight match with Sienna Maxwell with scores of 6-7,2-6, (1-9). Caitlyn Frerichs was defeated 1-6 and 1-6 by Paula Santalucia.

In doubles, Milbank’s Korstjens and A. Lamp lost to Delilah and Sienna Maxwell 1-6 and 2-6. Frerichs and Jones went down to Santalucia and Gonyo 2-6 and 2-6. P. Lamp and Swanson defeated Allen and Savannah Snow 4-6, 7-6, (13-11), and (7-4).

In exhibition doubles play Josie Riveland and Ava Sechmiller took down Breddin and Shelby Poncelet. 8-4.

Steve Stemsrud, coach of the Milbank girls JV team commented, “The Milbank JV ladies demonstrated significant improvement compared to their previous matches. Not only did they secure more wins, but they also showed progress in technique, resulting in a higher number of games won even in the matches they lost.”
