Bulldog Owen Fischer was named the NEC golf champion at the tournament held on August 27 at Dakota Winds Golf Course in Hankinson, North Dakota. Fischer earned the title of medalist with his score of 74 – just two over par at Dakota Winds and a personal tournament best. Fischer is a fifth-year starter for Milbank and in the hunt for his fourth straight trip to State this fall.
Mark Keeton, head coach for Milbank, said, “Owen had his short game locked in all day. The 74 is really impressive when you know he only hit five greens in regulation. We are always talking about the importance of the short game, and right here is the proof.”
Roncalli’s Finn Anderson finished as the runner up at 78. Bulldog Jonathan DeBoer claimed another top-10 finish with his seventh-place score of 83. Charlie Peery placed 15th at 94, and Greg Grabow carded a 117.
Milbank earned fourth place as a team. Groton won the team title and snapped Roncalli’s winning streak. The Cavaliers had taken home the previous five NEC titles.
