Lady Bulldogs Face Tough Battle Against Great Plains

The Lady Bulldogs volleyball team tangled with tough competition on Tuesday, September 10, when they hosted Great Plains Lutheran. The Lady Panthers came to town holding a 5-2 record, having only suffered losses from the undefeated powerhouses Hamlin (7-0) and Hitchcock -Tulare (11-0). Milbank, however, was overwhelmed 3-0 by GPL with set scores of 18-25, 17-25, and 14-25.
The Lady Bulldogs produced solid individual performances, but were unable to keep pace with the lethal combination of strength, speed, and stamina GPLserved up. Nancy Hoeke, head coach for Milbank said, “GPL plays with more speed and power than we’ve seen. It was frustrating for us. But it’s a match that emphasized areas we need to keep working on.”
Serving stayed steady for Milbank, with the team posting 43-of-51 from the line and recording three aces. Ella Sandvig was spot-on. She recorded 8-of-8 with one ace. Rylee Scoular (8-9) and Addisyn Krause (6-8) also each added an ace. Adison Pauli went 4-of-5. Claire Snaza made 2-of- 2.
On the attack, Claire Snaza was a standout. She made eight kills on 25-of-31 hitting to lead the Lady Bulldogs’ offensive charge. Isabella Anderson contributed six kills on 21-of-25. Siera Wenzl had four kills on 16-of-23. Sandvig recorded two kills on 5-of-5 hitting and Scoular added one on 2-of-2. Adison Pauli went 11-19 with one kill.
Scoular led the way in setting .She dished out 16 assists with her perfect 67-of-67. Krause chipped in four assists on 27-of-28.
For the defense, Wenzl racked up 15 digs. Jacy Dexter and Sandvig added eight apiece. Scoular and Krause with seven and six digs, respectively, kept the ball alive. At the net, Snaza made one solo block and one assist. Krause contributed one block assist.
