Bulldogs Golf Team Headed to State Tourney

The Bulldogs golf team will play in the 2024 State A Golf Tournament on Monday and Tuesday, October 7 and October 8,  at Central Valley Golf Course in Hartford. Milbank qualified as a team at the Region 1A meet on Monday, September 30, in Milbank. MHS golfers going to State include Owen Fischer, Gregory Grabow, Charlie Peery, Jonathan DeBoer, and Ryan Keeton. 

“What a fun and nerve-racking day for the boys!” Mark Keeton, head coach for the Bulldogs commented on the Region 1A meet. “Our goal all year was to qualify as a team, and today they were able to make that goal a reality.”

Coach Keeton also said, “We talk about how every shot counts, and to never give up. Today those words rang true as we qualified on the number.  It was a day filled with many ups and downs, but I am super excited for the boys to experience the state tournament as a team.  I want them to enjoy the ride, and to make as many memories as they can along the way. Some good golf would be nice too.”

Jonathan DeBoer led the team with a second-place finish.  He carded an 81. Close behind him were Charlie Peery and Owen Fischer, who tied for sixth place with a pair of 86s. Gregory Grabow tied with Nathan Larson of Sioux Valley for 29th place. They both shot 106. 

“I am very proud of the boys hanging tough all day in some very windy conditions,” Coach Keeton added. Brevin Fliehs of Groton Area won the regional tournament just two strokes ahead of DeBoer with a 79 at seven over par.
