Valley Queen celebrated Mike Schwandt’s final shift at the company on Monday, September 30. Schwandt began his employment there over 19 years ago in the packaging room as a box maker. He then worked on the fill point and seal line before becoming a packaging room lead and drain table operator.

When Valley Queen began running 24/7, Schwandt became a VAT operator. In March 2021, he moved to the procurement department and drove the route truck for the remainder of his career.

Schwandt reflected on some of his most memorable moments over the years: “Two times while I was a VAT operator, we had to shovel out a VAT by hand. One of the times was on the 4th of July, and luckily, many were helping out. Thankfully, because I had to keep the other VATS running, I didn’t have to shovel!” He will also have fond memories of working at the same company as his son, Kyle.
