

Milbank’s middle school band and 16 bands from other area middle schools converged at Groton for the Lake Region Marching Band Festival on Friday, October 11. Milbank won first place honors in their division.
According to Susan Karels, band director for the Milbank School District, the festival has become a premier marching event in northeast South Dakota. The festival originated in Milbank, and it then moved to Waubay for 11 years. Since 2013, Groton has served as its host. Bands are evaluated by a panel of three judges. Mr. John Patzlaff, Mr. Al Stewart, and Mr. Mike Likness served as the judges for the 2024 event.
Along with Milbank, Aberdeen Roncalli, Redfield, Langford Area, Leola, Ipswich, Frederick Area, Great Plains Lutheran, Northwestern, Pierre, Sully Buttes, Hoven, Lake Preston, Warner, Britton-Hecla, Aberdeen Simmon
