Burial will be at Milbank City Cemetery.

Carol Jean Reil was born on July 13, 1949, in Milbank, SD. She was the daughter of Harold “Bud” Kasuske and Betty Jane (Schaffer) Kasuske. Carol grew up in Grant County, where she was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. She attended rural school and graduated from Corona High School with the Class of 1967. She was united in marriage with LaWayne Reil on October 5, 1968.

Carol and LaWayne started their lives together in the Twin Cities. She worked as a secretary for the University of Minnesota. The couple returned to South Dakota and settled in the Milbank area. They were blessed with a daughter, Jodie, in 1970, and a son, Christopher in 1973. In 1982, Carol and LaWayne went their separate ways. Carol then dedicated her life to raising her children.

Carol was an extremely hard-working woman, usually working two or three jobs at the same time. Over the years, she worked at a variety of places including Milbank Insurance Company, Lantern Inn, Milbank Cabinets, United Hardware/Hardware Hank, and Hartford Beach Resort. She had an independent spirit and a compassionate heart. She volunteered countless hours at Emanuel Lutheran Church, the Be Ye Doers, and the Orphan Grain Train. She always put others in front of herself and selflessly gave whenever she was able. Every Black Friday, Carol would shop and buy carts full of toys to be given to the Angel Tree at Christmas. Carol enjoyed being outdoors and tending to her yard and garden. If she was not outside, you could find her working on puzzles and watching her favorite tv shows. Most importantly, Carol adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Jodie Reil of Fargo, ND; and Christopher (Tanya) Reil of Milbank, SD; four grandchildren: Derek (Amanda) Reil; Kristie (Kevin) Van Hout, Ryker (Jessica) Reil, and Trey Reil; five great-grandchildren: Brock Thyne, Kobe Van Hout, Kaia Van Hout, Lola Reil, Cecelia Reil, plus one more on the way; two sisters: Judy (Richard) Buttke of Twin Brooks, SD; Charlotte (David) Green of Milbank, SD; and Donald Kasuske of Twin Brooks, SD. Carol was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; and great-granddaughter, Kinley Van Hout.

The family suggests memorials be given to the Orphan Grain Train, c/o Emanuel Lutheran Church, 701 S 1st Street, Milbank, SD 57252.
