She attended St. Lawrence Catholic School and Milbank Public Schools, graduating from Milbank High School with the Class of 1999. She continued her education in Moorhead, MN, and earned a medical coding degree.
She lived in various places before returning to her hometown of Milbank. She and Donny Goldammer were blessed with a son, Chaxton. She was united in marriage with Paul Hicks in Milbank. They were blessed with three sons: Brander, Ramzey, and Hudson. She later married Travis Berry on April 7, 2020, in Milbank. This brought two stepdaughters into the family, Tatum and Tyra.

Carey was a loving and devoted mother to her children and stepchildren. She treasured time spent together and her world revolved around them. She loved to spend time at the lake, relaxing on the pontoon, and fishing. She also enjoyed going to concerts and sporting events with her boys. She loved watching her kids at all their activities. When at home, Carey was an avid watcher of the reality show “Survivor”, which gave her comfort through hard times.
Carey had a generous and giving heart. While attending her children’s events, she would often take pictures and videos for others. She had quick wit and a fun personality. She would give out sarcastic one liners that would keep everyone around her laughing. She always tried to make the most of every situation, she would do anything for anyone.
As Carey worked through her struggles in life, her caring spirit reached out often to comfort others. She touched so many lives in a positive and supportive manner. Alcoholism, the disease that Carey struggled with is the reason she is no longer with us. She was surrounded by people ready to help, but the disease was all too powerful.
