Orlean Lardy, 89, of Milbank, SD, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at St. William’s Care Center in Milbank.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank. A prayer service will start at 2:30 p.m., and burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Milbank City Cemetery.
Orlean Mae Lardy was born on April 14, 1935, in Webster, SD, the daughter of Peter and Inga (Kleven) Monson. She spent her childhood on the family farm in Day County and graduated from Roslyn High School in 1953. Continuing her education at Huron College, she earned a one-year teaching certificate in 1954 and began her career teaching grade school in various Day County schools.
On October 5, 1957, Orlean married Donald Francis Lardy in Webster, SD. The couple settled in Milbank, SD. She dedicated herself to raising their children: Pam, Scott, Kevin, and Dale. Orlean took on roles at Mercantile Company, Milbank Insurance, and finally retiring from Grant-Roberts Rural Water in 1997. Orlean was a long-time member of the American Lutheran Church in Milbank and later joined Living Word Lutheran Church. She found joy in baking, cooking, traveling, watching TV game shows, and spending time with her family. She cherished her home and the simple pleasures of being a homemaker.
She is survived by her children: Pam (Dave) Aman of Altoona, WI; Scott (Angela) Lardy of Garretson, SD; Kevin (Anita) of Sheldon, IA; and Dale Lardy of Milbank, SD; her 11 grandchildren: Casey Aman; Shannon (Jeremy) Thornsberry; Ryan Aman; Nicole (Daniel) Mar; Jack Lardy, Madden Lardy, and Clay Lardy; Zachary (Sydney) Lardy; Sarah (Jon) Eveland; Josh Lardy; and Jordon (Ann) Lardy Konda; as well as her eight great-grandchildren: Sawyer and Cameron Thornsberry; Holland, Beckham, and Winstyn Mar; Oliver Lardy; Warren Eveland; and Bennett Konda.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Peter and Inga Monson; her husband, Donald; and three brothers: Percival Monson, Elwood Monson, and Roger Monson.
