The Milbank Area gymnastics team welcomed four other schools to an invitational on Saturday, December 21. Final scores were close. Milbank took third place; Aberdeen Central won the event. Macyn Dunihoo secured a third-place finish in the floor exercise to achieve the highest individual ranking by a Lady Bulldog at the event.
Varsity Team Placings: (1) Aberdeen Central – 134.35 points (2) Deuel – 129.6 points (3) Milbank – 127.25 points (4) Britton-Hecla – 125.65 points (5) Sisseton – 120.45 points.
In the Vault competition, senior Hannah Brown performed a solid stuck handspring full to score 8.9 and take sixth place for Milbank Area. Freshman Raina Untalan had a nice half on – half off to earn a personal best score of 8.4 and tie for 20th place. She tied with her teammate senior Gemma Street, who also recorded a personal best. Sophomore Macyn Dunnihoo received an 8.35 to tie for 22nd place. Eighth grader Jada Leigh Wellnitz scored 8.15 to take 25th place. Eighth grader Aria Prasnicki earned a personal best score of 8.1 to tie for 26th place.
On the Bars, Hannah clinched fourth place with an 8.1. Macyn tied for 10th at 7.45. Jada Leigh recorded a personal best score of 7.05 to tie for13th. Aria etched a personal best score of 6.95 to place 16th. Raina had a clean-no-stop routine. She scored a personal best of 6.1 to tie for 21st place. Seventh grader Nuria Rodriquez performed a clean routine and added in a low bar kip. She scored a 5.35 to tie for 26th place.
In the Beam competition, Hanna again scored 8.1 to again take fourth place. Macyn tied for ninth place at 7.8. Gemma tied for 14th place at 7.55. Raina tied for 16th place with her score of 7.3. Jada Leigh tied for 19th at 7.2. Aria scored 6.75 for 24th place
According to their head coach, Kelly Wollschlager, the Lady Bulldogs finished the Floor Exercise with solid routines. Macyn took the highest place for Milbank during the event. She scored 8.7 to tie for third place. Raina also hit the top 10 when she clinched eighth place at 8.5. Gemma tied for 12th place at 8.05. Aria tied for 14th at 7.95. Hannah tied for 19th at 7.75. Jada Leigh scored 7.55 for 23rd place.
In the All-Around competition, Hannah and Macyn landed in the top 10. Hannah took 9th with a total of 32.55 points. Macyn was right behind her with 32.3 points in 10th place. Raina captured 17th place with 30.3 points. Jada Leigh forged a personal best score of 29.95 to take 18th. Aria took 19th place with her score of 29.75.
Michele Benike, Miranda Dunnihoo, and Amber Fraasch serve as assistant coaches for the Milbank Area team.
What’s next? The Lady Bulldogs Varsity and JV teams go on the road to Sisseton on Saturday, January 4.
