Lady Bulldogs Ground the Falcons

Fueled by three players in double figures, the Lady Bulldogs took down the Lady Falcons of Florence-Henry 51-34 in a non-conference basketball game on January 2. Isabella Anderson scored 15 points. Tyra Berry and Claire Snaza each scored 11 points. Snaza also added five rebounds and three assists.
The score remained close until early in the second quarter. Milbank led 11-9 at the end of the first and before the Lady Falcons eked out a one-point lead nearly midway into the second. The Lady Bulldogs stayed steady to take back the lead to finish the half at 25-18. In the second half, Milbank continued to create opportunities to score.They took a total of 48 shots – twice as many as the Lady Falcons.
Also contributing to the Lady Bulldogs offensive effort, Siera Wenzl dropped in six points. She added a rebound and a steal. Josie Riveland posted four points and grabbed three steals. Belle Pauli added four rebounds. Rylee Scoular had a rebound. Ella Sandvig made two assists. Anna Neugebauer made Milbank’s only block. She also contributed an assist, two rebounds, and a steal.
Ashlynn Vavruschka led the Lady Falcons with 13 points and four rebounds. Brooke Hvlavacek made six points – two three-pointers –and four rebounds. Ashlynn Klitzke was next with five points and a rebound.
The Lady Bulldogs connected on nearly 48 percent of their shots from the floor, including one third from long range. They landed three of their seven attempts from the free throw line.
Florence-Henry downed 50 percent of their shots. They were four of ten from beyond the arc. At the stripe, they landed six of 14 to equal Milbank’s 43 percent.
What’s next? With the win, Milbank improved to 2-1 this season. They hope to continue that trend when they face West Central on Saturday, January 4.
