JV Gymnasts Take First Place at The Barn in Hendricks

Coach Michele Benike said, “The Milbank JV gymnastics team did it again! On Monday, January 13, the team traveled to The Barn at Hendricks, Minnesota, to compete in a triangular with Estelline-Hendricks and Sioux Falls O’Gorman. We had a season-high junior varsity score of 114.0 to take first place.”
Milbank started the meet on the Beam. Marley Pinkert performed a no-fall routine and etched her highest score of the season at 7.25. She placed third in the event. Nuria Rodriguez also had a no-fall routine and recorded a score of 6.8. Abigail Benike scored 6.7. Tenley Bohn had just one fall. She scored 6.35. Timbree Spors scored 6.2. Elise Graham presented her fourth no-fall routine of the season and notched her personal best score of 5.4.
Next, was the Floor Exercise. Nuria showed off her dance skills along with some strong tumbling moves to score 7.95 and bring home second place. Marley put together some nice tumbling and dance for a score of 7.75 to secure third-place honors. Tenley had her best routine of the season. She scored 7.55 to take fourth place. Abigail added a back tuck to her routine. She scored 7.4 to tie for fifth place. Timbree scored 7.0. Elise performed her back handspring pass for the first time without a coach on the mat. She scored 5.9.
Two Lady Bulldogs placed in the Vault competition. Nuria had her best score of the season with an 8.35 to take second place. Tenley scored 7.9 to tie for fourth place. Abigail was close behind with her score of 7.8. Marley was right behind her at 7.75. Timbree recorded a score of 7.7. Elise scored 5.65. “Elise also continues to get more confident with her handspring vault,” Coach Benike noted.
Milbank finished the event on the Uneven Bars. Nuria received a season-high score of 6.8 – up from 5.8. She won second place. Timbree scored her season-high of 6.55, surpassing her previous high of 5.45. She took third place. Tenley scored 5.7 and was awarded fifth place. Abigail scored 5.4. Marley scored 5.2. “Nuria and Timbree continue to improve their kips on bars and received credit for some connections with these skills. This helped to improve each of their scores by at least a point,” Coach Benike remarked. Graham scored 3.05.
Milbank Area gymnasts earned four of the top-five All-Around places: Nuria took second; Marley, third; Tenley, fourth; and Timbree, fifth.
What’s next? Milbank gymnasts will compete in an invitational this Friday, January 17, at Madison.
