Lady Bulldog Wrestlers Place in Dan Pansch Tourney
Milbank Area Wrestling January 14, 2025 Staff 0

Three wrestlers from MHS attended the Dan Pansch Girls Invitational Wrestling Tournament in Brandon Valley on Saturday, January 11. Kyra Tostenson finished in second place. Mackenzie Mueller placed fifth. Aza Scavariel also competed.
Mibank took eighth place as a team.
Josh Schmeichel, head coach for the Lady Bulldogs, commented on their performances. “Aza had a decent wrestler in the first match and ended up losing by fall in the first period. The second match was a lot closer, he noted. “Aza took the girl down and turned her over at the end of the first period, but ran out of time to pin her. During the second period, they started on their feet, and Aza ended up getting head locked.”
“Mackenzie started with a quick pin in her first match,” Schmeichel said. “In the second match she was taking great shots and finishing, but ended up getting caught in the third period and lost the match. In the third match, she had a good match but wasn’t ready for her opponent to run a cow catcher. Mackenzie got put to her back. In Mackenzie’s last match, she came out looking for revenge and pinned her opponent halfway through the second period.”
According to Schmeichel, this is only Mackenzie’s second year of wrestling, and she has stepped up as one of the leaders on the girls team. “Mackenzie has really opened up and started feeling more comfortable taking shots and working on higher-level moves. She has the goal of making it to state this year. As a coach, I’m excited to see how much better she gets this season and in the next three.”
Kyra ended up in just a three-person bracket. “She made quick work of her first opponent by pinning her in just over a minute,” Schmeichel stated. “In her second match, Kyra struggled with getting takedowns and ended up making a couple of mistakes to give up two takedowns to lose 6-2.”
