Sam Rick and Bryan Meyer collaborated to knock in 30 points in Milbank’s basketball game against Hillsboro-Central Valley in Hillsboro, North Dakota, on Saturday,... Meyer and Rick Make 30 Points at Hillsboro

Sam Rick and Bryan Meyer collaborated to knock in 30 points in Milbank’s basketball game against Hillsboro-Central Valley in Hillsboro, North Dakota, on Saturday, January 11. Emmett Hanson and Lincoln Holscher each added nine more  – Holscher’s all from three-pointers. But It was still not enough to trip the Burros. Hillsboro-Central Valley won the game 60-51 buoyed by a double-double from Bryce Miller. Miller racked up 20 points and 14 rebounds.

Logan Diede, head coach for Milbank, remarked, “Hillsboro was a very long, tall, and athletic team that played a physical style. We kept battling and got the game close multiple times, but just never got over the hump, so to speak. I’m proud of how our guys defended, rebounded, and competed all night.” With just 6:55 remaining  in the fourth quarter, the Burros were ahead by 17 – their largest lead in the game – but Milbank chipped away and cut it down to single digits by the final buzzer.

Hanson led the Bulldogs in rebounds. He pulled down 11. Holscher grabbed six. Meyer and Lightfield got three apiece. Lightfield also scored three points and made five assists and a steal.  Rick, Jeter Scoular, and Jack Howard each got two boards. Esteban Abrego recorded one defensive rebound.

Overall, the Bulldogs shot better than the Burros. Milbank finished at 39 percent from the floor to Hillsboro-Central Valley’s 37 percent. The Bulldogs hit 25 percent from beyond the arc, and the Burros downed 29 percent from long range. Milbank connected on six of 15 free throws for 40 percent. Hillsboro-West Central, however, outdid Milbank  at the line by collecting 13 of 23 for 56.5 percent.

Diede commented, “We have continued to improve each and every day – and will continue to get better with our shooting percentages to help us down the stretch in these games.” Diede also noted, “The Bulldogs will definitely have Hillsboro on our schedule next season as they will be coming to Milbank.”

What’s next? The Bulldogs travel to Redfield for a doubleheader with Redfield on Thursday, January 16.
