Sam Rick lit up the scoreboard with 19 points in Bulldogs basketball on the road against the Quarriers of Redfield on Thursday, January 16. Rick delivered three three-point daggers and added one of everything – a rebound, assist, block, and a steal – to help dispatch the Pheasants 63-24. Milbank held Redfield to just four points in the second and the fourth quarters.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs racked up points from players up and down the roster. Emmett Hanson scored nine. Lincoln Holscher had eight. Jack Howard, six. Bryan Meyer and Emmett Snaza made four apiece. Ryan Keeton, Graham Lightfield and Jeter Scoular each made three. Layten Osowski added one bucket. 

Milbank also beat Redfield on the boards. Hanson recorded 10 rebounds to lead the way. Howard had five. Snaza and Osowski each had four. Keeton, Meyer, and Holscher each pulled down three. Braylen Bowsher got two. Lightfield, Scoular, and Charlie Peery each grabbed one.

“I was proud of how hard the boys played, and continue to play, every night out. We were a talking and energetic group from start to finish, and everyone got out there and gave us some good minutes in the process,” commented Logan Diede, head coach for Milbank.

Ruben Alvarez was the Pheasant’s top scorer. He made 11 points. Alvarez was backed up by Grady Hulscher, who scored six points and Jackson Rude, who made five. Ethan Falk added two. Falk also led Redfield with three rebounds.

JV Game – Milbank 46 vs. Redfield 10
The Bulldogs JV team defeated the Redfield JV team 46-10. Two Milbank players hit double figures. Jaxson Wiese set the pace for Milbank with 11 points. Ryan Keeton followed with 10. Layten Osowski added eight points and Lincoln Holscher posted seven. Ethan Owen put up four. Aiden Kelly, Liam Street, and Emmett Snaza each scored two. The Bulldogs also had a good night at the free throw line. They downed seven of nine for 78 percent.

Holscher led the Bulldogs on the rebound. He had seven. Osowski made four. Scoular, Ethan Owen, and Braylen Bowsher each had three. Liam Street and Emmett Snaza both had two. Keeton, Lance Engebretson, Kelly, Wiese, and Mack Koplin each secured one.

Scoular rounded up five steals. Osowski had three. Holscher made the only block for the Bulldogs. Bowsher led the offense with two assists.

Grady Hulscher led Redfield’s JV  with four points, an assist, and a steal. The Pheasants finished with a solid 67 percent from the foul line. Austin Snell nabbed four rebounds. Jackson Rude, Tate Newharth, and Keagan Hansen each got two.

What’s next? Milbank heads to Dell Rapids for a doubleheader, on Saturday, January 18.
