The Milbank JV gymnastics team traveled to Madison on Friday, January 17, for an invitational. The girls competed with athletes from Madison, Chamberlain, Sioux Falls O’Gorman, Sioux Falls Lincoln, and Wagner-Bon Homme. The Lady Bulldogs  finished with a season- high score of 116.85 to bring home second place. Sioux Falls Lincoln won the meet. Milbank gymnasts took four of the top five All-Around places: Rodriguez, first; Spors, second; Pinkert, third; and Bohn, fifth. Team members also collected wins in each event.

The Lady Bulldogs started strong in the Floor Exercise. Marley Pinkert and Nuria Rodriguez each earned personal best scores. Pinkert scored 8.25 to earn fifth place. Rodriguez scored 8.35 to take fourth place.

Sophomore Riley Ehlebracht was able to compete in her first meet after sustaining an injury at the beginning of the season. She received a score of 5.65. Elise Graham “is making great progress with her tumbling and jumps” according to Coach Michele Benike. Elise received a season-high and personal-best score of 7.3. Tenley Bohn tied her personal-best score of 7.55. Timbree Spors also etched her personal-best score of 7.6. 

On the Vault, Rodriguez scored 7.85 to tie for fifth place. Bohn was next at 7.7 Her score was good for an eighth-place finish. Pinkert and Spors both scored  7.1. Ehlebracht scored 6.9 and Graham received a 4.9.

Benike says, “The team continues to make great progress on the Uneven Bars. They increased their score by two points in this event from their last meet.” Spors led the way with a score of 7.4 to win first place. Rodriguez placed second with her score of 7.25. “Pinkert had a nice connection from the low bar into her high bar dismount,” Benike noted. She scored 6.15 to take seventh place. Bohn was next for the Lady Bulldogs at  5.75 to finish at 10th place.  Ehlebracht scored 3.1. Graham scored 2.6.

“The girls did a good job of staying on the beam and finished the meet with some solid beam routines. Pinkert had her second no-fall routine in a row and scored a 7.9 for first place,” Benike commented. Spors experienced one fall to score 7.45. She landed in  fifth place. Bohn was next with a 6.9 to take home 10th place. Rodriguez scored 6.55. Ehlenbracht scored 4.3. Graham scored 4.05.

What’s next? The seventh-grade members of the team competed on Monday, January 20, in Britton. It was the final junior high meet of the season. Look for results coming soon here on The Valley Express.
