Rick Scores 18 to Cut Down Cavs

The Bulldogs basketball team finished their week by bouncing back from a loss to Hamlin on Tuesday to securing a 48-38 victory over Roncalli on Friday, February 7. Sam Rick rang up a game-high 18 points for the Dawgs, including three 3-pointers. He also put up two assists and two rebounds. Bryan Meyer scored nine points and got an assist and a steal. Graham Lightfield and Emmett Hanson each dropped in eight. Jack Howard made three points and two assists. Ryan Keeton claimed both of his shots from the stripe. Keeton also made an assist and pirated the ball once.

Hanson crashed the glass to come away with a whopping 15 rebounds – four offensive – to give the Bulldogs a second look. He also made two blocks. Howard pulled down four rebounds and hijacked the ball once. Layten Osowski also grabbed a steal. Lincoln Holscher played briefly.

Roncalli’s Sam Franks scored 13 points and made a block. Jesse Hernandez made seven points. Aiden Fisher made six. Brady Weinmeister had four, and Cam Olson added three. Fisher and Grieben Parker led the Cavaliers with six rebounds apiece. Olson hauled down five.

The Bulldogs finished with a 35 percent shooting average. They hit 16 of 46. Milbank made seven of 26 triples for 27 percent. At the line, they collected  nine of 13  for 69 percent.

The Cavaliers downed 42.5 percent of their shots from the floor. They hit just two of nine from beyond the arc for 22 percent. The Bulldogs allowed Roncalli only six free throws. The Cavaliers made two to finish at 33.3 percent.

By coincidence, the final score in this game was the same as the final score in the girls’ game with Roncalli the night before. To add to the fluke, Isabella Anderson also matched Rick’s 18 points to lead the Lady Dawgs.

What’s next? The Bulldogs welcome the Sisseton Redmen (5-8) to the Milbank Armory for a doubleheader on Tuesday, February 11.
