Milbank Gymnasts Take Sixth at State Tournament

The Lady Bulldogs earned sixth place in South Dakota as a team at the Class A State Gymnastics Meet on Friday and Saturday, February 14-15 at the  Watertown Civic Arena. Individually, Milbank’s Hannah Brown won the fourth-place medal in the Vault competition and Macyn Dunnhoo took eighth in the state on the Floor. Personal best scores were also a highlight for several of the Lady Bulldogs. Each Milbank gymnast came home in 35th place or higher in all their events.

Estelline-Hendricks captured the state team title with 145.933 points, seven points ahead of Parkston, who landed in second at 138.883. The remaining six teams battled it out to finish within just six points of each other. 

Estelline-Hendricks has created a mini-dynasty by taking home three consecutive state team titles in the last three years. In Class AA competition Harrisburg took the crown from the Lady Kernels of Mitchell after two-straight years. The Lady Tigers of Harrisburg secured their first ever state title.

Head coach for the Lady Bulldogs, Kelly Wollschlager, commented on the first day of the competition, “ After starting on bars and beam and having a rough start, the team finished strong with our second-highest vault team score of 34.383 and our highest team floor score of the season of 35.917. Our floor score was also the second highest of the meet behind Estelline-Hendricks, who finished with a 38.233.”

On Saturday, Individual Day, eight Milbank gymnasts competed in at least one event.  on at least one event.
